It is always necessary to have an antivirus protection program regardless of anything. The point of the matter is, computers are very vulnerable more now so then before and having these programs helps block these sources from accessing your information. If anything there is a program called AVG Free and you can use that instead. With my experience it runs smooth, fast, and doesn't slow down your computer very much. It's a useful tool. They also have a pro but its not required to switch over. The free version isn't a trail it just doesn't have complete access to the program which you have the basic needs with the free version. If you have any more questions free feel to ask.

Yes it's necessary to install antivirus because in this century of technology comes the bad side which you can open emails that contains viruses or just got to a website. Once you get a virus in your computer, the computer becomes slow or in many cases break down complete. Where you will have to buy a new computer.
