Do you have the latest service packs installed? Perhaps one of the packs addresses the issues with some people have problems.
When u say different keyboard, have you tried different keyboards and still get the same problem?
How comfy are you playing with the registry? Note, this is a tool that gets upset easily if u do something wrong and may find wndows not operating properly

Hello nidhi,
It's a work computer and im forced to use it so i dont know any thing about the system it self, and our technician on demand says he has no clue, so im lost. Yes ive tried many diffrent keyboards that we have on the shelf and still get the same problem. When i press caps lock the start menu pops up instead. No i dont know any thing about the registry. Im not computer stupid but youd have to send me a website or tell me how to go about fixing this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

ok, when u hit the caps lock, start menu pops up
Now I wonder if removing scancode map would help
open up registry i.e start/run/regedit
navigate down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
then SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Keyboard Layout
see the pic/notes in the link in my previous post
when u open keyboard layout, is there a scancode map entry?
if so, delete it (you can always backup those entries first by exporting the key or creating a restore point)
out of interest, if u do have a value, what is it?
you may need to reboot

good tool orionb. I just checked it. It creates the scancode map in the registry as described in the link I gave earlier.
Obviously far better to use this tool though than mess around with the registry :)

Thanks to both of you i solved the problem, though sorry orionb i didnt use your idea (didn't feel like downloading stuff to solve my problem). So as you said nidhi i just went to the keyboard layout and used the mapping to change the binary code to set my caps lock back to a caps lock. And yes it was messed up before hand it was like:
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 5D 0E 2A 00 00 00 00 00
which turned my caps lock into the windows key i believe didnt check so i just changed it back with:
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 2A 00 2A 00 00 00 00 00
which just turns my caps lock into a caps lock!

Cool, glad your all sorted now.
If you removed scancode map, that probably return it to its default I think. It seems its optional to have that. I didnt have that entry. My current laptop doesnt have a windows start key so Ive just programmed caps lock to be that, just created a Scancode map and it works a treat!
