I have some files on my brother's computer that I need on my computer... I was wondering if I take a USB cable and hook one end to my brother's computer and one end to my computer, am I able to send files through the cable onto my computer somehow..?

Yes it is possible, it is a special type of USB Cable which you can purchase in your local computer shops.
