Are you currently in work now? Do you want to do it full time or part time?
What country do you live in?
Once you have done your phd, their may be many flavours of work. Have you any thoughts on what specialist areas you might like to work on?
Best bet for work initially is to contract recruiment agencies (a lot online now) and see what they can offer you.

Im not talking you out of doing phd but always worth asking yourself if you want to do it as it is probably a long term and often expensive commitment to make. I would imagine it also to be hard work. But if you do a phd then it is a great achievement and Im sure it will help you gain work, which probably better pay so benefits are there to be seen but you will have to work hard for it.
