I found out from this link: http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutor... that it is actually possible to create .ico images in Photoshop. All you have to do is download a free plugin like this one: http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/
it works for most photoshop versions. Mine is Photoshop 7 and that worked without problems.
Now I'm running into the problem that I need the icon to be transparent, but I'll ask that in a new question, so I don't get the admin on my back...
