IBM ThinkPad account login error. i click on my account icon to login but it logs out right after
when i click the login icon, it says "loading your personal settings..." and i get a glimpse of my wallpaper then my lap top immediately begins to log back out and it says "logging off.... saving your settings..." i have some important files i do NOT want to lose and i can't find my window's disk so reformatting will have to be the last resort...

have u tried booting up in safe mode? do you know the password for administrator?
try logging in that way
then use some software like CCCleaner to check whats in your startup and delete anything that looks dodgy
hijackthis is also good to run
u could try running hijackthis and post log here. I could have a look

MSN Messenger, Apple Lover :), Real Update, Security, nothing looking dodgy there. How about hijack this?
Have you installed any software recently?
Have you tried running antvirius and especially spyware? I dont know how good SpyCatcher is but AVG have a decent free spyware checker as well.

When you ran AVG - was it spyware or virus? when u say it cant boot in safe mode, what do you mean, does it just hang?
What did you remove? anti spyware shouldnt delete main files.
When you got into safe mode and ran software to check for spyware/viruses, did you manage to get your files off?
Aug 07, 2007 - 07:42 AM
I ran antivirus avg and i cleaned spyware with ccleaner. i cant boot in safe mode as in it's giving me the same problem as if i was booting normally.
STUPID ME! I didn't copy my files because i thought there was no need since i could just keep booting from safe mode.... WRONG. all hope's lost isnt it?
Aug 07, 2007 - 07:43 AM
i dont think its a contaminated file i removed that was the problem. i was able to login again after i ran the virus/spyware check.

Ok, thats better then. You obviously had something which was messing you up.
By going into safe mode and running this has helped you clean it out.
I got worried when you said you couldnt boot in safe mode.
Im glad your all okay now.
I suggest you backup your files onto a CD.
now with AVG installed, ensure it has auto update set on it. AVG spyware is manual update, unless u pay for it.
I trust AVG to be a good virus/spyware.
Never install more than one antivirus, but installing multiple spyware s/w is no problem.
Well I think your sorted now.
Good luck with it!
Note, CCleaner is a tool used to help clear your history plus check whats in the startup (useful for this kind of thing - as you may well of noticed)

Hi there. Ive been away, very busy at work.
Are you still having problems?
Nov 21, 2007 - 05:32 AM
no i already reformatted =( thanks for your help
Nov 21, 2007 - 05:35 AM
ok, chance for you to get stuff back. Have a look at GetDataBack for Fat/NTFS whichever one you have.
I have used this s/w 3 times and it works great each time. It can recover files from formatted disks.
Depending on how much you have written to this, it may be still possible to retrieve your files.
Still interested?
