I found out that it does indeed allow scheduled backups, but my problem was that the jobs I were creating through a remote sql server manager were never running. When I tried to run the job I got the error: Error 22022: SQLServerAgent is not currently running so it cannot be notified of this action.
In order to correct it I logged in on the server where the database was located and ran the SQL Server Service Manager (sqlmangr.exe), and looking for the SQL Server Agent I found out it was not running.
So now it should be fine...
