Trying to take a picture with my Canon Digital and it is telling me err 99. Action photos.

Trying to take action photos such as football and baseball. Camera keeps saying ERRor. What am I doing wrong. First time for this to happen. I've had this camera for 3 yrs now.

IT can mean anything. Dirty lens contacts to a firmware upgrade to a shutter mechanism replacement.
