recurring mysterious selection issue
About three times over the past 4 years I have accidentally hit something on my keyboard that has altered the selection function on my mouse. After I hit whatever it is that I hit, items become selected in a document that I havent yet drug the mouse across. If I click the mouse in the middle of a word document, everything before that point becomes highlighted. Also, I can no longer use the number keys..... instead if I type a number (without hitting the shift button) the symbol above it is what is displayed in the document.
How do I get rid of thsi funcatin?
What did I do to initiate it?
What is this function called?

I believe you may hitting the shift and numlock key combo. If you look you will notice that there are numbers on some of the letter keys...when the shift and numlock are pressed you are switched to the mode.
I'm not positive but I think this can vary on other laptops.
