which model have you got?
try this
find the "Fn" button (usually bottom left and is blue)
find the wireless symbol on the keyboard, usually F5 key
hit both keys, Fn and keeping it pressed, hit F5
this should bring up the radio dialog. Switch it on from there.
If you have newer models like T60, there may be a switch towards the front, ensure that is switched on as well.
