The following like details how to create a new 'sent items' database file among other things. If it is the same version of OE it might do the trick for you.

Thank you for your assistance. To tell you the truth I'm not clear on what finally worked. I did try to do the things suggested but frankly it didn't cure my problem. I eventually downloaded some free software (Regcure) to clean up my system and whatever that did cured my problem....thank god. It was driving me nuts trying to fix it.
