how can i trace an email address to the person or organization that it is sent from.
I have posted my resume to several different job search sites and am getting some strange responses that I am unclear about whether to respond to or not. I know wnough to know that the crap that come to me for the position of depositing check in certain accounts is bogus and I know the United Nations has not chosen be as the winner of the 5 trillion dollar benevolency fund, but some of the responses seem to be legit and yet I'm not sure.

Hmmm...
I would say just see what the end URL is within the email address...and if it isn't one of the companies that you applied to then just consider it spam. If it is...and looks like a real corporate email address...email back.
Good luck with the job search.
