Does the light flash when you connect it?
Have you tried another USB port?
Right click on My Computer and select Manage. Select Disk Management. On the right side of the screen you should see the connected hard disks and your external hard disk is probably labelled Removable Storage. Do you see it?

In my opinion, the fastest way to become a computer expert is to have a powerful software in your PC, tuneup360 is such a software, have it in your computer, you can handle all the problems by yourself.
