what do u mean, not open up webpages. by search results are you talking about a web search engine or windows file search.
have u tried another browser? ie, firefox, safari etc.

I have solved the problem now, but what was happening was google would open, it would complete a search and return results but then not open a website page.

glad to see its resolved. what did you do?
now u said it is a web browser, maybe security setting or something.
did u try the reset?
in ie, go to tools, internet options, click on advanced tab and select reset
can also try resetting defaults in security tab
