I have a desktop woth XP and laptop with Windows 7. How do I print from the laptop,wired or not?

My laptop connects to the internet with a router. The desktop is connected to my Dell printer with a standard cable. How can I print something from my laptop? I've been putting stuff on my flashdrive and then using that at the desktop, but there has to a better way, right?

Thanks the author, very useful advice.
a)my pc often freeze too, which always drive me crazy, I want a program to solve my slow computer, several days ago my friend recommend me a software tuneup360, now I'm waiting for the result.
