My XP Professional boots up but the mouse and keyboard do not work.
Recently my XP system has started booting but cannot access the system as the mouse and keyboard will not work. I have purchased a USB powered keyboard and mouse but still nothing happens. The same problem arises with the P/S2 keyboard and mouse. I am a novice to computing and this is very frustrating. The system is about six years old and has all the updates installed. I have a 250gig HDD and 1 gig of ram. I own genuine MICROSOFT XP Professional and Home Edition discs which have been installed times without number with no problems. The computer was manufactured by Tiny who unfortunately no longer exist. The disc player is also not recognised by the system. When a disc is loaded the disc player starts up but nothing shows on screen. I have checked that all the connections are secure inside the tower and as far as I know all is well there.
I would appreciate any advice as to what the problem is.Much as I would like to purchase a new computer that is beyond my means. Thank you for reading this.

could be a driver issue. if u go into control panel, click on system then the hardware tab then click the device manager button.
do you see anything listed with a yellow exclamation mark on it?
