make sure you do all of the windows updates first, the problem may simply lie in a missing driver for the chipset (intel is notorious for this).
right click on my computer and go to properties
click on the hardware tab
click on the device manager button.
this screen will show devices missing drivers
address these devices after installing as many windows updates as you can. you may find that the usb issue will go away on its own.
