using the pen tool, I want to deselect part of my line to my logo without deselecting whole thing

I made a logo with the pen tool and now I want to fill in with color, but when I try to select for example just the arm of the image my select tool selects more than I want selected so I can't fill in just the individual parts that I need.

normally wad i did, is for instance, arm will be juz an arm will do. body will be another part, and same for the legs will be another parts.

then when i tried to fill whichever parts, there wont have such problem i reckon?
