Let me introduce you to two Firefox "Add-ons"...
First, the Web Developer add-on. Not only does it allow you view both the source and the generated source, but also allows other things including working with CSS, etc. Find it at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...
Second, is Firebug. It is very useful in seeing what's being put out to the browser, including CSS inheritance, outlining, etc. It also allows for net tracing (somewhat like Tamper Data) so if you're working with XMLHttpRequest at all, you can watch your traffic. Find it at: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...
There are many, many more "Add-ons" available for Firefox - some of them even make working a bit easier.
I hope this helps,
Ric
