I normally use the program hijack this to help remove troublesome programs.
http://www.download.com/HijackThis/30...
what I normally do is go the the tools section and copy and paste the uninstall string into the run command (start->run)
then I can better see what happens. If that doesn't work, I just rename the program's folder within Program Files, restart my computer to see if that didn't screw anything up, delete the folder and again use hijackthis' tools to remove the add/remove programs entry.
chances are, with firefox it wrote to the same directory as the previous version. In this case, there is no folder to rename and delete and you should only have to remove the entry from the add/delete programs list.

Thank you Oracle, it worked for me just to run hijackthis and go to the misc tools section and copy the uninstall command to the command prompt and running it from there.
It prompted me to close FF 2, even though I was uninstalling FF 1.5, but I guess they are interconnected somehow. And fortunately FF2 is still working :)

Well, maybe because your browser and windows system are not compatible, you'd better change your browser or maybe you can try the software tuneup360, which can help you solve all the computer problems.
